Introduction to liquid-vapor phase change

Introduction: Conservation equations, Wetting and contact angles.  Phase change: Phase stability, thermal transport at interfaces. Nucleation: bubble nucleation in superheated liquids, Spinodal limit, kinetic limit of superheat. Heterogenous nucleation: Inertial and heat transfer dominated nucleation, pool boiling regimes: nucleate, transition and film boiling.

Introduction to liquid-vapor phase change

Undergraduate and graduate students who wish to understand basics of liquid-vapor phase change and interfacial transport such as evaporation and boiling. This course is also helpful for people in industry who wish to understand the basics of boiling as the physical phenomena of heterogenous nucleation, different boiling regimes such as nucleate, transition and film boiling are observed. We also discuss fundamentals of Leidenfrost effect and drop evaporation.
